Charles H Allen

Private, Company G, Age 36 from Kittery, Maine
Muster Rolls: height: 5' 5", light complexion, blue eyes, brown hair

CHARLES H ALLEN was born in York, Maine [muster roll; vr of children] circa 1826-1827, the son of James and Sarah (Trafton) Allen [NH Marr Rec]. He died on 1 Jan 1897 in Portsmouth, Rockingham, NH at age 70 [NH Death Rec], and was buried in Harmony Grave Cemetery [The Graves We Decorate].

He married first, on 21 Mar 1851 in Kittery [VR of Kittery, 329], to
HANNAH E MILLS. Perhaps the daughter of Benjamin and Lucy Mills, born circa 1835 and living a few doors down from Charles Allen in the 1850 census, she's likely the Mrs Hannah Allen who died in Kittery on 18 Sep 1857. Burial place unknown at this time.

Charles secondly married, on 5 June 1873 in Portsmouth, NH [NH vr], to
ELIZA EMMA LEEMAN, this also being her 2nd marriage (her 1st husband was Levi R Cook, and they had several children together). Perhaps the daughter of Isaac P and Esther Leeman of Calais, Maine, she was born there circa Aug 1840 [1900 census]. She was alive during the 1910 census, age 69, and I still need to research her death date.

At this time, there is one known child of Charles and Hannah:

I.
CHARLES B, born in Kittery ca 1853. He married on 19 Oct 1876 in Portsmouth to FLORA E COOK(E), the daughter of Levi R and Emma Cook, and thus his step-sister. She was born in Calais, Maine ca 1858.
1. Gracie, born in Portsmouth on 25 Aug 1878

By his 2nd wife Eliza (all born in Portsmouth, NH):

II.
FREDDY, born 28 June 1873. He died on 9 Feb 1874 in Portsmouth.

III.
JESSIE (f), born 15 Dec 1874.

IV.
WELLINGTON L, born 11 Oct 1877. He died in
Portsmouth on 4 May 1914. He married in Portsmouth, NH on 12 Feb 1902 to
RACHEL HUTCHINS, the daughter of William and Eliza (Goss) Hutchins. She was born in New Foundland ca 1881. In 1910, they had 4 children:
1. Ralph L
2. Mildred, born in Portsmouth on 20 Feb 1905
3. Walter
4. Ruth

V.
ALVAH GILLMAN, born 5 Aug 1882. By Sept 1918, he was living in Nassau County, New York with wife Agnes [WWI Draft Reg Card]. Not sure if he is the "Albert G" seen in Portsmouth street directories, living with widow Emma in 1901 and 1903.
