Private, Company E, Age 27, Residence: Sanford
JEDEDIAH ALLEN was born in Sanford, Maine circa 1835 [Must Roll], the son of Levi and Dorothy (Penny) Allen [Early Families of Sanford, p9]. It is said in Early Families that, according to the Ancestry of Beulah Fogg Maguire of Sanford (p260), he married and died in one of the southern states. I have never found him in any census or vital record, and do not know of his burial place.
Following his service with the 27th Maine, Jedediah reenlisted with Co B, 29th Maine Infantry, on the 14th of Jan 1864, age 28, on behalf of Eliot, Maine. The ME Adjutant Report for 1864-65, v.2 p.670, says "wounded; absent; sup in Me". The American Civil War Soldier database adds that he deserted on 12 May 1866.
