The 27th Maine Volunteers
Charles S Bartlett
Private, Company E, Bethel, age 22
Enlisted on 15 Oct, 1862
CHARLES SOLON BARTLETT was born on 19 July, 1840, perhaps in Bethel, Maine, the son of
Ball and Marina (Bartlett) Bartlett. He died on 7 Mar, 1871, probably in same town.
I have found no marriage record for him, nor does the "History of Bethel" or "Descendants of
Joseph Bartlett" give him any spouse. I did not find him in the 1870 census that could help in these
matters.
He was a farm laborer (1860). His father had a tavern and hotel in Bethel. The History of Bethel,
ME, page 466-470, has a good history on the Bartlett family in this region, the same data is also
found in "The Descendants of Joseph Bartlett of Newton, MA" compiled by Aldis Everard Hibner
c1934 (pg 128-29).
The ancestry of Charles S (Ball, Thaddeus, Ebenezer, Joseph, Joseph-1) shows that his parents
were first cousins, the children of brothers Thaddeus and Peregrine Bartlett.
