John G Cole
Private, Company I, Age 28 from Kennebunk
Promoted to Full Corporal on 20 Dec, 1862
JOHN G COLE, the son of John and Ann J (Gilpatrick) Cole, was born on 30 Mar, 1830 in
Kennebunk,ME [Kennebunk VR] or Sanford [birth rec of dau Annie; John's father was from here]. He
died 23 Jan, 1899 and was buried in Hope Cemetery, Kennebunk.
He married in Kennebunk on 30 Apr, 1865 [VR] to MARY ANN WORMWOOD, who was born circa
Feb, 1837 [1900 census]. She was born in Kennebunk according to daughter Annie's birth rec. She
died in 1921 [gravestone] and is also buried in Hope Cemetery.
As a teenager John worked as a farmer [1850 census], was briefly occupied in the brickmaking trade
around the 1860 census, but afterwards returned to farming [1870-80 censuses]. He was a native of
Kennebunk, and evidence shows him living there his entire life (except for his time in the service).
He and Mary had three children [1900 census: ch 3/3], all girls:
I. ANNIE F, born 3 Apr, 1869 in Kennebunk, ME [VR]. She was a school teacher, living with her
widowed mother and sister in 1900+1910 censuses, single. She is buried with her parents, her stone
having no death date.
II. ISABEL S, seemingly a twin to Annie as they were same age in 1870, 1880 and 1900 censuses,
though Isabel is not in Kennebunk birth rec's. She died in 1943 [gravestone]. She married on 5 Feb,
1894 to AUGUSTUS J BLAISDELL [ME Marr Index], and lived in Kennebunk. He was born in 1860
and died in 1943 [gravestone]. They had no children.
III. ELSIE MAUDE, born 31 June, 1874 in Kennebunk. She was a school teacher like her older sister,
living with her mother and sister in 1900+1910 censuses, single. She is buried with her parents (no
death date on stone).
