Warren Fernald
Corporal, Company G, from Kittery, age 21
<Received a disability discharge on 24 Jan, 1863>
WARREN FERNALD, born in Kittery, ME in Feb,1838,
probably the son of Capt. Simon Fernald and wife Joanna
F Williams. Simon was lost at sea in 1848, his widow
Joanna found in Kittery censuses with Warren living there
[among other ch in h.h. is Simon, who also served in the
27th ME]. Warren's name is on stone in Simon's plot, but
also has his own family spot in Orchard Grove, Kittery.
Warren died in 1914, a member of E.G.Parker Post
No.99, GAR.
Warren married circa 1865 [date not yet found]
MARGARET A JENKINS, who was born in Kittery in
1841 [g.s., 1900 census has Jan,1842] and died in 1914.
Warren, while in the service of the 27th Maine, contracted
typhoid fever and diptheria, and had to be discharged
from the regiment. As he didn't file for a pension until
1896, it looks as if those diseases didn't handicap him
after he returned home. He lived most of his life in Kittery
(except for a brief stay in Waltham, MA in late 1890's to
early 1900's where he was a blacksmith) and held many
jobs at the Navy Yard, including watchman, shopkeeper,
and 'running planer'.
According to the 1900 Waltham census, Margaret had 8 children, 6 of them still living, the 1910
Kittery says 10/8. I have 9 (6 believed to be alive in 1900).The descendants are as follows:
i. CARRIE E, born ca 1865, she married 30 Sept, 1888 in Kittery to ANSON L CLARK of
Ipswich, MA [VR of Kittery pg 472]. She was living there in 1906 [ Ports Herald 7 Aug, 1906: Mrs
Carrie E Clark of Ipswich,MA is visiting her mother Mrs Warren Fernald of Rogers Rd.]
ii. MARCIA E, b. 1867 and died 1935 [g.s.], she married JOHN E GRANT (1866-1933 on g.s.).
Haven't looked further into this couple. Both are buried in Warren's family plot.
iii. CORA B, b. ca 1869
iv. WARREN A, b. ca 1871
v. DAISY M, born 1872, died 1891 [g.s. -Orchard Gr.]
vi. FLORA M, b.1876 Kittery, she married 15 Oct, 1896 in Waltham,MA to AUVILLE/ARVILLE
YOUNG, son of Augustus D Young [a 27th Me vol.]
vii RALPH E b. 1877 d. 1877 [from grave stone - Orchard Grove]
viii. GEORGE H b. Jan, 1880. He was the unnamed baby boy aged 5/12, b.Jan, on 1880 census.
He died in 1900 [g.s.] Bur in family plot, Orch.Grv.,Kittery
ix. RALPH E b.1881, married JULIA M (d.1915), he died in 1956. This couple buried in his
father's plot.
NOTE: Plenty more to do on this family, wanted to get a page up for Warren to link to others
'related'.
