CHARLES A GOODWIN was born on 8 Dec 1843 in Sanford, Maine [NH death rec] or

acute nephritis [NH VR]. He was buried in the Rollinsford (Old Town) Cemetery. An application
for disinterment is filed in NH Vital Records in 1923, where his wife Amanda had his body
moved from one part of the cemetery to the "west corner of lot".
He married 1st, on 8 Nov 1870 in York, Maine to CHARLOTTE WILSON. She was born ca
June 1843, and died on 10 Sep 1876 at age 33yrs,3mos. She is buried in the Moulton Plot,

Charles was working as a farm laborer in 1860 York, Maine, where he was living with his father
Charles, who was a Free Will Baptist Minister, and his second wife Charlotte. Charles A's
mother Dorcas had died in 1856 [12 Aug: Lebanon, ME VR vol.3 p.48]. They had moved here
from Sanford, and the family also lived in Lebanon (thus the differing accounts of Charles A's
birth place). Following his time in the 27th Maine, he enlisted again, this time in the 5th
Massachusetts Infantry when they recruited for 100 day volunteers. He served with them from
23 July to 16 Nov 1864. Prior to the 1880 census, Charles moved to Rollinsford, NH, where he
was a farmer, and lived here until his death.
His brother Ivory Goodwin served alongside him in the 27th Maine.
By his wife Charlotte, he had a son:
WILLIE E, "only son of C.A. and C.W.", died 28 Apr 1877 at age 3yrs, 1mo. He is buried with
his mother.
By his 2nd wife, one child is seen with them in 1880 census. 1900 census data shows
Amanda having 5 children, none living by then.
