WILLIAM H MOODY, the son of William and Caroline (Merservey) Moody,
was born in Nobleboro, ME on 1 Oct, 1836 [obit; 1900 census]. He died on
29 Oct, 1904 in Liberty, Waldo Co, ME [obit].
Around 1860, he married ABBIE S JELLISON of Kennebunk [obit]. She
was born on 25 Aug, 1838 [1900 census] in Kennebunk, the daughter of
Samuel and Clarisa (Oakes) Jellison [ME Death Rec]. She died on 27 Aug
1912, aged 74 yrs, 2 das from carcinoma, and was buried in Washington,
Know, ME [ME Death Rec].
His obituary was carried in the Daily Kennebec Journal dated 1 Nov, 1904:
Notes from Liberty: He came to this town with parents when four years
old and resided nearly all his life [note:his enlistment data followed this
in obit, but dates were reversed]. At close of war he spent three years in
civil service on coast of Florida. Was 6 years a member of Board of
Agriculture, attended Farmers Congress in St Paul in 1897. An officer in
State Grange; was enumerator in last census [NOTE: in 1900 Liberty,ME
census, he and Abbie had FULL birth dates listed, the only ones to have
such because William was the enumerator]. Member of Loyal Legion;
member George's River Grange; E.H.Bradstreet Post GAR; George's Royal
Arch. Chapter F + A.M. Masons
Following his time in the 27th ME, he reenlisted into the 2nd Maine
Cavalry, Company L, and was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on 24 Dec,
1863. He was wounded in battle at Marianna,FL on 27 Sept, 1864, but
continued to serve, being mustered out on 6 Dec 1865 in Barancas,FL. As
obit mentions, he stayed here in Florida for several years after the war.
Except for his brief time in Kennebunk prior to the war, where he worked
as a carriage painter, he lived in Liberty, ME and was occupied as a farmer
and a painter.
William and Abbie had two children:
I. DELBERT H, born circa 1865 [age 5 in 1870, 15 in 1880], he died in
1890 [father's obit].
II. BLANCHE, born ca 1872-73 in Liberty,ME, she married circa 1903 [marr
7 yrs in 1910 census] (as his 2nd wife) ARTHUR E JOHNSON, a farmer of
Washington, Knox Co, ME. The 1910 census says that she had two
children by this time (4 others in household were from Arthur's previous
marriage), only one still living, which was:
