William A Anderson
Rank: Pvt Co: H Age: 34 Residence: Limington Birthplace: Windham Occupation: carp Married/Single: M Height: 6' 0 Eyes: Dk Hair: Br Complexion: Dk

WILLIAM AUGUSTUS ANDERSON, the son of Capt Edward and Olive (Waterhouse) Anderson, was born 12 July 1828 [1900 census "July 1828"; birth calc from age at death; Early Fam of Limington has 1829] in Standish, Maine [Early Families of Limington, ME, pg 6; Descriptive roll says Windham, ME]. He died 13 Jan. 1904 in Limington, ME, aged 75 yrs, 6 mos, 1 day [ME VR] and is buried in Steep Falls (Standish), Maine [ME Vet Cem Recs]

He married first, on 10 Dec 1850, to ADALINE MARR HOBSON, who was born 10 Mar 1833 in Standish and died 11 Aug 1877 in Limington.

He married secondly, date not yet known, to MARIA PEABODY MAYO, who was born 28 Sep. 1841 in Standish and died 10 Feb. 1894 in Limington [Early Fam's of Limington, pg 6]. Maria P. is seen on 1850 census, age 8, with Arza and Marcellan Mayo in Standish.

In Taylor's book, it mentions Capt Edward moving from Standish to Limington around 1833. Son William, except for a brief time around the 1860 census moving back to his birth town of Standish, lived out his life in Limington. He held several occupations, including that of blacksmith, machinist, and farmer.

William perhaps had at least four children by his first wife [first 2 listed below based on being in household during 1860-70 census taking, though no relationship was actually stated] and I don't believe he had any by his second wife Maria. She did have 3 children [per 1900 census] by her first marriage [to Ambrose Cram, seen in 1870 Standish with youngsters William, George, and Susan].

I. JAMES E ANDERSON, born ca 1852. He died 5 Apr. 1896 at age 44 yrs [ME VR] form pneumonia, and is buried in South Buxton Cemetery [YCCI, pg 473; death rec]. He was married to BESSIE MADDOX. She was the daughter of Ivory and Olive (Johnson) Maddox [from her 2nd marr to George W Parker in 1904]. They were living in Hollis, ME during 1880 census, where James was working in a sawmill. One known child:
   1. Freddie W Anderson, died 31 Jan. 1880 at age 2 yrs, 20 das. He is buried with his father in Buxtron [YCCI, pg 473].

II. WILMOT H ANDERSON, born ca 1854. He is seen in William and Adaline's household in 1870 census at age 15. Previously with them in 1860 at age 6.

III. CHARLES S ANDERSON, born in Jan. 1857. He married ca 1882 to IDA M, who was born ca Feb. 1860. They moved to Portland, ME by 1900 census, having two children at time of enumeration, living at 2 Knight St; he was a car repairer. They afterwards moved to Los Angeles, where they are seen in 1910 census, Charles being a night watchman for a warehouse there.
   1. Addie D Anderson, b. Mar. 1884, moved with parents to L.A., single in 1910.
   2. Howard W Anderson, b. Nov. 1886, he had died prior to 1910.

IV. JERRY HARLAN ANDERSON, born in July 1863 in Limington. He was married ca 1888 to EVA E PATTEE  [1905 Limington census], born ca Feb. 1870 in Limington [data from 1900 census]. No children are seen with them in 1900-1910 censuses. He was a farmer and lived in Limington.
