01 27th ME transferred from 3rd Brigade to the 1st [Col Fessenden of the 25th ME commanding]

​​Colonel Rufus P. Tapley, who had resigned from his position on the 15th, was officially discharged on this date. Having been on trial in December for violating Section 10 of the Act of Congress, July 22nd, 1861 (for attempting to assign Capt. Snow as chaplain without a vote), the military commission had allowed him three days to offer his own resignation instead of being dishonorably discharged.

28 The 25th and 27th ME receive letters from Edwin Stanton, Secretary of War, under direction of the President, asking for them to stay beyond their 9-month service for a short time. Over 300 men of just the 27th ME step forward
30 original expiration date for the 9-month service [from 30 Sept mustering in]

JULY
03 Battle of Gettysburg ends 
The 25th and 2/3 of the 27th ME arrive in Portland
04 Volunteers march to Washington for transport home
06 The remaining 300 arrive back in Portland 
17 Mustering out for the 27th Maine ​
