Index of Soldiers

The 949* men assigned to the regiment, including those who resigned, deserted, or died during their service. Unless otherwise noted, the soldiers served a full term of service, officially beginning with a 10 Sept 1862 enlistment date, their mustering in on 30 Sept (the 19th for officers), to their mustering out on 17 July 1863. Those few other men enlisting in early October to complement the regiment's numbers are also noted under the individual's name.

On the appropriate index pages, those names highlighted in blue (or in red if page already visited) indicate a link to an individual soldier's page. The data from the descriptive rolls have now been added to each soldier (except for the 22 men who had no info listed except for age and marriage status). The following are the abbreviations I gave to the eye, hair and complexion colors from the Descriptive Rolls:
Aub=auburn Bl=blue Blk=black Br=brown Dk=dark F=fair Gr=gray Hz=hazel Lt=light S=sandy

*According to Col Wentworth and Adj't Reports, the regiment had 949 men mustered in, lost 82 through the year, and had 867 when mustered out. However, 864 was the official number of those who returned to Maine and was the number used when the Medal of Honors were issued. This would make (864+82) the muster-in count stand at 946, which is the exact number of names I have compiled in my database of those who served in this unit.
