CHARLES P ATKINS was born circa April 1845, the son of Rev John W Atkins of the M.E. Church and his wife Elizabeth. He died on 1 Dec. 1865 at age 20 yrs, 8 mos and is buried with his father and siblings in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Saco, ME [YCCI pg 1563]. Inscription says: "Died after serving his full time as a volunteer in the 27th and 30th ME Regiments".
After his service in the 27th ME [30 Sept 1862 - 17 July, 1863], he reenlisted on 24 Dec. 1863 at Saco to serve for three years, and was mustered in on 6 Jan. 1864 into the 30th Maine Infantry, Company A, at age 18, and was mustered out on 20 Aug, 1865 in Savannah, GA.
I've seen no indication that Charles married [and no pension index mention of a widow]. He was living with his mother in 1860 Saco census at age 15.
