CHARLES MILLETT BLAISDELL was born ca 26 Oct 1844 [based on age at death] in Lebanon, Maine, the son of Thomas and Lydia (Dixon) Blaisdell. He died, probably in Lebanon, on 31 July 1873 at the age of 28 yrs, 9 mos, 5 das [Lebanon Deaths, p18]. He was buried in his family's lot on their farm in West Lebanon.
He enlisted into the 27th Maine on 30 Sept 1862, said to be age 18. He was subsequently discharged "for minority" on the 20th of October, the day the regiment was leaving for Washington, DC. Calculating a birth date from his age at death, he would have been turning 18 in only six days, but nevertheless, was sent home. On 4 Sept 1864, now age 19, he enlisted into Co D of the 1st NH Heavy Artillery as a private from "Milton, NH" for one year. He was mustered out on 15 June 1865 in Washington,DC [NH Adjutant General's Report 1866 v1 p644].
He lived on his parent's farm in Lebanon, and was working there as a laborer during the 1870 census. He died three years later, and his mother filed for his Civil War pension in 1882 (11 Sept; app #296,477 cert #225, 538). He didn't marry.
