STEPHEN BLANCHARD, the son of Abel and Sarah (Littlefield) Blanchard, was born in Lyman, Maine on 29 Nov 1839 [NH death rec]. He died in Pittsfield, Merrimack, NH on 10 June 1913 at age 73 from passive congestion of the liver. He was buried in Floral Park Cemetery in Pittsfield on 12 June [NH death rec].
Stephen was married to ELVIRA LYDIA KENISTON about 20 Nov 1865 in Alfred, Maine [ME Marr]. She was born in Maine [census recs], perhaps in Whiting, ME [son Fred's marr rec] in 1837 and died on 16 July 1922 in Athol, MA [NH VR]. She is also buried in Floral Park, Pittsfield.
Stephen was living with his parents in Alfred, Maine during the 1860 census, and following the war, he moved to Manchester, NH, where he was employed in carpentry [1870 census]. He lived in the city for 30 years before removing to Pittsfield, NH at the turn of the century, where he would work as a farmer. He filed for a pension on 24 Mar 1879 (app #274,553 cert #284,298), his widow doing so on 19 Jun 1913 (app #1009,713 cert #763,798). The 1890 Veteran Schedule shows him with an injury to his left knee.
He and Elvira had only one child, a son:
I. FRED H BLANCHARD, born 14 Jan 1866 [gravestone] in Alfred, ME. He died on 13 Apr 1925 [gravestone] and is buried in Floral Park cemetery with parents. He was married to LIZZIE CARRIE KNOWLTON on 21 Nov 1890 in Pittsfield, NH. The daughter of Charles T B and E J (Norris) Knowlton, she was born 4 May 1864 in Pittsfield, and died 8 Mar 1919 in Athol, MA [NH VR]. She is buried alongside husband in Floral Park. The 1900 and 1910 censuses show them having 2 children:
1. Arnold Knowlton Blanchard, b. 22 Sept 1891 Pittsfield, NH [NH birth rec; WWI Draft Reg Card]
2. Howard Keniston Blanchard, b. 3 Apr 1895 in Concord, NH [NH Birth Rec; WWI Draft Card; WWII Draft Card]. He died 7 Dec 1977 [MA Death Index; US Vet Affair File].He lived in Athol, MA.
