JAMES FRANKLIN BRACEY (BRACY) was born in York, Maine in March 1840 [1900 census], perhaps the son of the George Bracey of York he was living with during the 1850 census. He died on 12 Oct 1912 in Fremont, Rockingham, NH from a cerebral hemorhage, aged "67" [age a little off; NH death rec] and was buried in Fremont's Village Cemetery (I searched this yard, fall 2008, and did not find his stone).
On or after 2 Oct 1869, he married ISABELLA F FULLER of South Berwick [intents filed 27 Sept 1869, cert iss 2 Oct -VR of Berwicks, p395]. She died between the 1870 and 1880 censuses, and burial is not yet known.
James is first seen in the 1850 York, Maine census, living with George Bracey and his second wife Eunice [Mr George Bracy and Mrs Eunice K Junkins, intents filed 1 Nov 1842]. In same house is a James and Olive Bracey [James Bracy Jr and Olive Lewis marr in York May 1815 - NEHGR v116 p297], which could show an earlier generation. James is not in the same household for the 1860 census, and unless he is the one in Tuftonboro, NH at age 21 (with a NH birthplace), he hasn't been found.
Following his service in the 27th Maine, he reenlisted for a three-year term into the 20th Maine Infantry on 17 Feb 1865, and served until mustering out on 16 July 1865. His residence was again listed as Kittery.
The 1869 marriage record of James and Isabella places him in Rollinsford, NH, and the following year he is living in South Berwick, working in the woolen mills there. The 1870 census lists him as Franklin Bracy. By 1880, he was now boarding in Newmarket, a widower, and working as a laborer. From there, he moved to Newington, NH [1890 Vet Sch], thence to Ogunquit, Maine, finally to Fremont, NH by Jan 1897 [death rec says Fremont res 6 yrs 9 mos, prev. from Ogunquit]. The 1900 Fremont census show him as a day laborer, age 60, a widower. His 1903 death record says he was a mail carrier.
It is not known yet if James and Isabella had any children, but none are seen with him in 1880, where he was already a widow.
