JOHN BROWN was born in Weld, Franklin, Maine [Descriptive Roll; town was in Oxford County at time of his birth] or (more likely) in Wells [death rec's of Sarah and Joseph], circa 1814 (based on age at death), his parentage unknown. He died on 1 Oct 1877, perhaps in South Berwick, Maine, aged 63 yrs [grave transcription, YCCI, pg 2089]. He is buried in his family plot in South Berwick, west of the intersection of Emery's Bridge Rd and Earls Rd [YCCI, pg 2089].
He was married, on 28 June 1843 in Dedham, Norfolk, MA [MA vr], to LYDIA WARREN, the daughter of Joseph and Jane (Emery) Warren. She was born on 22 Jan 1815 in South Berwick [VR of Berw, So Berw and No Berw, pg 517], and died on 12 Aug 1881, aged 66 yrs, 6 mos, 20 das [YCCI, pg 2089] and is buried with her husband.
I. (poss) GEORGIANNAH BROWN, born ca 1842 [age 8 in 1850 census]. Seen with Lydia and her three (confirmed) children in the 1850 South Berwick census, living in Warren household, at age 8. As this age indicates a birth date prior to the marriage of John and Lydia, perhaps age is wrong or perhaps a child of his by a previous unknown marriage. Nothing yet has been found on her following this census.
II. SARAH JANE BROWN, b. ca 1844 in MA [1850 census; 1860,'80 says b.ME]; d. 3 Feb 1897 in South Berwick from Brights Disease, aged 52 yrs, 9 mos, 1 day [ME death rec]. She is buried in the Hasty family plot on Emery's Bridge Rd, South Berwick. She was married to GEORGE B HASTY, intents filed 11 Nov 1865 in South Berwick [VR of Berw, So Berw & No Berw, pg 389]. The son of Joseph and Joanna (Shaw) Hasty [ME death rec], he was b. in South Berwick in Nov 1844 [1900 census] and died there on 1 Dec 1922, aged 78 yrs, 8 das.

2. Hattie A Hasty, b. ca 1869; marr 5 July 1885 in South Berwick, George W Webber
3. Warren V Hasty, b. July 1871 [1900 census]; married 27 Aug 1893 in Dover, NH [NH vr] to Frances Emma Dow. She was b. in Tamworth, NH ca Nov 1872 [1900 census]. Warren was a carriage painter [1900-10 censuses].

ii. Harold Clyde Hasty, b. 21 Apr 1896 So Berwick [ME vr]; d. 1 May 1938 in Dover, NH [NH vr]; he marr Jennie Odelle Sanborn, dau of Frank E and Ida M Sanborn, on 1 Oct 1921 in South Berwick.
iii.. Gladys Winnifred Hasty, b. 26 June 1904 in Rochester, NH; d. 1 Apr 1999; she marr Herbert A Carroll, 25 June 1925. She was an American novelist (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gladys_Hasty_Carroll)
III. JOSEPH W BROWN, b. in Quincy, MA about (calc) 7 Feb 1847; died 2 June 1920 in South Berwick, aged 73 yrs, 3 mos, 26 das [ME death rec]. He was buried in Ashburnham, MA. He married, on 1 Jan 1880 in Fitchburg, MA [MA vr], to LUCIA J TENNEY. The daughter of Addison and Harriet Tenney, she was born in Baldwinville, MA. He served in the 1st NH Heavy Artillery during the Civil War, and reenlisted into the US Navy in 1868 for 3 yrs. He was living in Athol, MA by 1880, and was in Boston, MA by the 1920 census, an engineer.
IV. COLUMBIA BROWN, b. in MA [1850 census] or in Maine [1860 census] abt Feb 1848. He died on 9 Aug 1865, aged 17 yrs, 6 mos [YCCI, pg 2089]. He is buried in the same family plot as his parents in South Berwick.
