NATHANIEL ALANSON BURNELL was born in Baldwin, Cumberland, Maine on 21 Apr 1838, the son of Nathaniel P and Mehitable (Noble) Burnell [death rec]. He died on 10 Jan 1918 in Westbrook, ME, aged 79 yrs, 8 mos, 20 das, and was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Westbrook [ME Death Rec].
He was married, on 4 Aug 1860 [Hist of Limington, pg 161] to ANGELIA THATCHER COUSINS. She was born 19 Aug 1840 [Hist of Lim., pg 161] in Limington, Maine, the daughter of David B and Sylvia (Marr) Cousins (and brother of William A Cousins, who served in the 27th Maine). She died on 19 Dec 1902 [MOCA Cem rec; I didn't find death rec], and was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Westbrook.
Nathaniel was a shoemaker, living in his native Baldwin until around 1862, when he removed to Cornish. Prior to the 1870 census, he moved to Gorham, Maine, and then went on to Westbrook by 1885. He had continued his work as a shoemaker until 1900, when he was appointed Postmaster of the Cumberland Mills office.

i. ANNA L BURNELL, b. Baldwin, ME ca Feb 1861 [1900 census]; d. 19 Aug 1902 at the State Insane Hospital in Augusta, from mania [ME Death Rec]. She married LOT LIBBY on 2 Nov 1879 in Gorham, ME. They had moved to Dexter after 1880, where Lot worked as a supervisor at a canning factory.
1. Lawrence Leonard Libby, b. 16 Sept 1880 in Gorham [Gorham Town Rec; WWI Draft Card]. 1918, liv in Newport, ME, a super. for Portland Packing Co.
2. Martha V Libby, b. 7 Dec 1895 in Westbrook [ME vr].
3. Osmond Adams Libby, b. 12 Dec 1899 Dexter, ME [WWI Serv Rec]; d. Feb 1966 [SSDI]. In 1930 census, was living in Springfield, MA with wife Hazel M. He was a chemist at a textile mill.
ii. JOHN P BURNELL, b. May 1862 [1900 census] in Baldwin, ME [birth rec of ch]; d. 7 Mar 1947 [MOCA Cem Rec]. Married CHARLOTTE "LOTTIE" A LAWRENCE. She was born 1866 and died 13 May 1929 [Cem Rec]. They are both buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Westbrook. John was a foreman at the S D Warren Paper Mill in Westbrook.
They had six children, all born in Westbrook, Maine:
1.Charlotte Adna Burnell, b. June 1887 [1900 census]; d. 1953 [grave]. Marr 15 Oct 1907 in Westbrook to Arthur N Saylor [ME marr rec].
2. Ray Lawrence Burnell, b. 28 June 1891 [ME birth rec; 1900 census]; d. 24 Dec 1968 in San Diego [CA Death Index], and buried in Ft Rosecrans Nat'l Cem, San Diego, CA. He was a Brig General in the US army, serving in WWI and II. He was married 1st to Beatrice McIndoe (6/5/1897-6/12/1961), and 2nd to Anne (Davis) Hodgson (12/16/1896-8/6/1966), both of whom are buried with him in Ft Rosecrans Nat'l Cem.
3. Pauline C Burnell, b. 22 Aug 1893 [ME birth rec]; d. 16 Apr 1970 Princeton, MA [MA Death Index]. She marr Leon G Smith, ca 1920. They were liv in Winthrop, MA by 1920 census. Had a son, Alden G Smith.
4. Nathaniel Alanson Burnell, b. 13 Sept 1897 [ME birth rec]; d. 27 June 1976. He is buried in Arlington Cemetery, a retired US Army Major General. They had a dau, Anne L Burnell.

iii. ROSE (ROSIE, ROSA) BELLE BURNELL, b. Jan 1868 [1900 census] in Cornish, ME [marr rec]; d. 10 Dec 1952 [MOCA Cem Rec], bur in Woodlawn Cemetery, Westbrook. Married on 21 Oct 1896 in Westbrook [ME Marr Rec] to CHARLES BYRON GRAHAM. He was born in Westbrook, the son of James ans Eliz. J Graham. They didn't have any children of their own, but they cared for her dec'd sister Ann's two younger childen, Martha and Osmond Libby. They lived in Westbrook, where Charles worked as a foreman for a paper mill.
iv. FREDERICK A BURNELL, b. Mar 1871 [1900 census] in Gorham, ME; d. 13 Dec 1934 [MOCA Cem Rec]. Married to EMMA W LEIGHTON. She was b. 1866, and died 30 Jan 1960 [Cem Rec].
