JOHN WESLEY FREEMAN was born on 28 Dec 1841 [ME death rec; gravestone has 1842] in York, ME, the son of Oliver and Lucy Maria (Moulton) Freeman. He died in York on 24 Jan 1920 at age 78 yrs, 27 das of cancer of the eye, a condition he had for over 2 years [death rec]. He is buried in the 1st Parish Cemetery in York Village, ME [YCCI p2233].
He married on 11 Jan 1873 in Wells, ME [VR of Wells p475, and York County Marr p330] to MARY A RAMSDELL, also of York, the daughter of Oliver and Olive (Smith) Ramsdell. She was born in York on 23 Dec 1852 and died in same town on 15 Nov 1914 at age 61 yrs, 10 mos, 23 das from tuberculosis of lungs [ME Death Rec]. She was buried in the Ramsdell lot on Clay Hill Rd in York [YCCI 2394].
For most of his life, John was a mariner, and always lived in York, Maine. By 1900, he retired from the sea and became a farmer. An 1872 map of York shows his father and other Freeman names in the Cape Neddick district. He filed for a pension on 10 Jun, 1899 (app #1,229,509 cert #996,090).

I. EVERETT PLUMMER FREEMAN was born around 4 Aug 1873 [WWI Draft Card; 1880 census shows him at age 5 and 1900 gives him Aug 1872 birth date]. He moved to Manchester, Hillsborough, NH, where he worked as a pipe fitter at Amoskeag Cotton Mill. He married on 29 Jan 1901 in Manchester, NH to ANNIE MARY REYNOLDS, the daughter of John and Mary (Sheridan) Reynolds [NH VR]. She was born ca 1882 in Ireland. She was a widow in the 1945 Manch. street directory. The 1920 census for this city shows them with the following children, all born NH:

II. NELLIE A FREEMAN was born in Mar 1881 [1900 census] and died in 1968 [YCCI p2279]. She married on 10 Nov 1904 to FRED H BOWDEN of York [ME Marr]. He was born 1874 and died 1942 [g.s.]. They are both buried in 1st Parish Cem, York [YCCI p2279]. The 1910 York census shows them with two children:
1. Ruth E Bowden, age 4 in 1910
2. Hotchkiss A Bowden, age 2 in 1910
III. RALPH RAYMOND FREEMAN was born 5 Oct 1883 [WWI Draft Reg Card; 1884 on grave] and died in Rye, NH on 11 Mar 1946 [NH death rec; YCCI p2233]. He is buried with father. He married ABBIE GAFFNEY, who was born in 1889 and died in 1931 [grave] and is buried with her husband. He worked for a brief time in Lowell, MA as a tinsmith, then lived in Cape Neddick and was a sheet metal worker at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. By 1930, he was in Chelmsford, MA, a sheet metal worker. One child is seen with them in census records:

IV. GEORGE WESLEY FREEMAN, born 20 Dec 1884 [WWI Draft Card; 1885 on 1900 census]. He lived in Cape Neddick and worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He married EDNA MAY PERKINS on 23 Dec 1914 [ME Marr], both of York Beach, ME. She was born on 2 Apr 1897 and died on 9 Aug 1977 [YCCI p2279] and they are both buried in 1st Parish Cem, York.
