WILLIAM S GRAY, the son of Samuel and Charity (Smith) Gray, was born ca 1844 in Biddeford, Maine [Descriptive Roll]. He died on 11 July 1863 [Headstone Order], and was buried in the "City Cemetery" (now Woodlawn), Biddeford.

William first served with the Maine Coast Guards, from 22 Oct 1861 to 13 Sept 1862. He was in Company A, which was stationed at Fort McClary in Kittery, Maine. Immediately after his discharge, he enlisted with the 27th Maine. He received a disability discharge on 10 Feb 1863 and returned home, only to pass away five months later.

He did not marry.
