IVORY ALPHONSE (or ALPHONSO) HALL was born in Shapleigh, ME abt 4 Sept 1841 [based on age at death], the son of Ivory and Louisa M (Thompson) Hall [ME VR]. He died on 2 Dec 1895 in Shapleigh at age 54 yrs, 2 mos, 28 das [ME death rec; Biddeford Daily Journal, 13 Dec] and was buried in Hope Cemetery, Kennebunk Village [YCCI, pg 835].

Prior to the 1870 census, he was married to OLIVE MARIA CLARK, who was born in Kennebunk on 7 Sept 1848 and died there on 22 Sept 1920 [ME death rec]. She was the daughter of Samuel and Betsey (Littlefield) Clark, and was buried with her husband in Hope Cemetery.

A Shapleigh native, he was born, lived and died in town, where he was a farmer. By the time of the 1890 census, when not even 50 years old yet, he had gone blind [1890 Vet Schedule]. He had applied for a pension in 1881, perhaps due to this [his file not viewed yet].

After Ivory's 9 month service in the 27th ME, he reenlisted into the 2nd Maine Cavalry as a private, Company M, and served from 7 Oct 1864 to 6 Oct 1865.

Ivory and Olive had four children [1900 census], all born in Shapleigh:

He worked for a time in Revere, MA as a street commissioner, but later owned the Acme Theater Co, with theaters in Kennebunk, Kittery and Vinalhaven [obit]. They had three children [data from Desc of Thomas Leavitt, pg 226]:
