NELSON S HARMON was born on 1 Mar 1830 [Harmon Gen, pg 47] in Standish, Maine [Harmon Gen, pg 47; ME death rec], the son of John and Abigail (Shaw) Harmon. He died in Standish, Maine on 4 Aug 1914, aged 64 yrs, 5 mos, 3 das, from general debility [ME death rec], and was buried in Higgins Cemetery, Standish [ME vr].
He was married first, on 21 Dec 1850 in Lebanon, Maine [Lebanon VR, Vol 2, pg 165], to SARAH E PRAY. She was born in North Berwick ca 1835 (age 25 in 1860), likely the daughter of Alexander Pray and Sally (Lord), and died 10 Jan 1863, aged 30 yrs, 2 mos [grave]. She is buried in the Applebee Cem, North Berwick (her brother, William H Pray, is also buried here. He served with Nelson in both the 27th and 1st Maine Batt'n with him). He secondly married, around Aug 1863 [Intents filed on 3 Aug 1863 - VR of Berw., So Berw, and No Berw, pg 579], to ADAH A APPLEBEE. The daughter of Samuel and Betsey (Estes) Applebee, she was born in North Berwick on 20 Dec 1838 and died there on 10 Nov 1919 [ME death rec]. She was buried in Sebago Lake (village within Standish), Maine (cemetery unknown). Note: Adah's mother Betsey was married thirdly to Alexander Pray, in 1854, the same man Sarah Pray was living with in 1850. If her father, then she and Adah were step-sisters.
Nelson was a shoemaker early in life, while living in Standish and Lebanon, Maine. He was a farmer when the war started, an occupation he continued until his death. He also lived in North Berwick for a time in the 1850-60's (in between the census years) and, with one child born in Taunton, MA, may have stayed there shortly. His brother William was living there at the time (he was killed in battle at Fredericksburg in 1863).
Nelson served twice during the Civil War - first with the 27th Maine, and again with Company C (prev the 25th Unassigned Comp.), 1st Battalion, Maine Infantry. He reenlisted on 22 Mar 1865, age 35, a farmer and was mustered in on 1 Apr 1865, for the quota of Saco. He received a disability discharge on 25 Sept or 1 Oct '65 at the US General Hospital in New York City [muster out papers]. In both instances, his birth place was listed as North Berwick.
Nelson and Sarah had perhaps three children:
i. MARY A HARMON, b. 2 Jan 1853 [grave]; d. 16 May 1856 [grave], age 3 yrs. She is buried in the Applebee Cemetery, North Berwick.
ii. WILLIAM C HARMON, b. Sept 1856 [1900 census] in Lebanon, ME [ME death rec] or North Berwick [1870 census]; d. 13 Feb 1914 in Standish [ME death rec]. He was a butcher, and single at time of death.
iii. CHARLES L HARMON, b. 20 July 1859 in Taunton, MA [MA birth rec]; d. 1952 [grave] Married ca 1880 (20 yrs in 1900) to FLORA M PARKER. She was born Feb 1866 [1900 census] and died in 1951 [grave]. Both are buried in Harding Cemetery, Standish. Charles was a farmer, and they lived in Standish. They had 3 children [1900,1910 censuses]:
1.Myrtle Lena Harmon, b. 1 Jan 1883 in Standish; d. 16 Oct 1906 in Standish, from consumption [ME vr]. Marr Orra (aka Orrie) D Bragdon, 3/26/1899 in Standish. He was b. 1880 and d. 1937 [grave]. Both bur in Harding Cem, Standish. They had a son, Wilmer E, born 7/29/1900 in Standish [ME vr].

3. Arthur Carroll Harmon, b. 14 Aug 1893 in Standish [ME vr]; d. 1961 [grave]. Marr Louise M Larkin (1898-1975).
According to the 1900 and 1910 censuses, 2nd wife Adah had 7 children. Only three are seen with the family in census records. At this time, not sure about the other names.
iv?. MARY EMMA HARMON, b. ca 1867 in Lebanon, ME [1870 census]; d. aft 1940 census. Married 1st to LORENZO D LIBBY, 18 Apr 1885 in Windham, Maine [ME vr]. He was born in Windham, Maine on Sept 1828 [1900 census], the son of Peter and Annie (Knight) Libby, and died 13 Oct 1904 in Windham [ME death rec], aged 76. Mary secondly married ARETAS P LIBBY, on 12 Feb 1907 in Rochester, NH [NH marr rec]. He was born ca 1864, the son of her first husband Lorenzo Libby and his first wife Elmira Field.
Mary had 8 children by 1900, 11 in 1910. All but latter two were born in Windham, children of Lorenzo:
