CALVIN LEWIS HAYES was born in Kittery, Maine on 1 Mar 1842 [Kittery VR, pg 419; obit], the son of Lewis and Sarah M (Clark) Hayes. He died there on 24 July 1914 from a cerebral hemorrhage, aged 72 yrs [ME death rec]. He was buried in Orchard Grove Cemetery, Kittery.
He was married, on 14 Mar 1864 in Wolfeboro, NH [Kittery VR, pg 419], to ANGELIA MARTIN PERRY. The daughter of Greenleaf and Hannah T (March) Perry, she was born in Boston, MA on 8 Jan 1843 [Hayes Gen, pg 502]. She died from heart disease on 21 Apr 1911 in Kittery [ME death rec], aged 68 yrs, 3 mos, 13 das, and was buried in Orchard Grove Cemetery.
i. ALBERTA PERRY HAYES, born in Kittery on 6 Dec 1865 [Kittery VR, pg 419]. She died there on 3 Mar 1917 [ME vr] after a long illness [obit]. She was buried in Orchard Grove Cemetery. She was married to GEORGE WASHINGTON COBB. He was born in Marion, MA on 11 July 1862 [MA vr], the son of Oliver and Lucy Cobb. He died in 1921, and is buried in Old Landing Cemetery, Marion, MA. Alberta and George were separated by 1910, and divorced by the time she passed away. Alberta and George had six children:
1. Ethel Angelia Cobb, b. 15 Sept 1888 in Hingham, MA [MA birth rec]. Marr 1st, on 23 June 1909 in Kittery, ME [ME marr rec], to Charles S Segee, b. St John, NB. They div. and she remarr on 20 July 1918 in Portsmouth, NH [NH marr rec] to Floyd Buford Brown, the son of Irving and Katherine Brown. He was born in Lee Summitt, MO, and served in the US Marine Corps [marr rec].
2. Calvin Hayes Cobb, b. Kittery 21 Nov 1889; d. 29 Mar 1961. Buried in Arlington National Cemetery. He attended Traip Academy, and left to join the US Naval Academy in 1907. Graduating on 2 June 1911, he returned to Kittery and graduated with his class. He served with the Navy until retiring on 1 Nov 1946, with the rank of Vice-Admiral. He was married to Francis King (1891-1956), who is buried with her husband in Arlington [Nat'l Cem Interment Control Form]. He was awarded a Navy Cross for distinguished service as Commanding Officer of the USS Duncan (DD-46, a destroyer) engaged in the important and exacting and hazardous duty of patrolling the waters infested with enemy submarines and mines [ME Military Men 1917-1918].
3. Elmer Ellis Cobb, b. Rochester, NH; d. 22 Feb 1900 in Medford, MA [MA vr]. He was buried in the Hayes plot, Orchard Grove Cemetery.
4. Ralph Perry Cobb, b. 13 May 1893 in Rochester, NH [WWII Draft Reg Card]; d. 16 Mar 1959 [MA Mason Member Card]. He marr, on 31 July 1915 in Kittery [ME vr], to Edna F Kimball, the daughter of Edwin F and Martha (Brown) Kimball (and granddaughter of James W Brown, a 27th Maine veteran). They lived in East Weymouth, MA.
5. Charles Lawrence Cobb, b. 23 Feb 1895 in Rochester, NH [NH birth rec]; d. 13 May 1982 in Vernon, CT [CT Death Index]. Worked for the Warren Woolen Mills Co.
6. Roger Albert Cobb, b. 17 Jan 1897 in Rochester, NH [NH vr]; d. 9 July 1904 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, aged 7 yrs, from pericarditis [ME death rec]. He was returned to Kittery for burial in Orchard Grove Cemetery.
ii. (adopted) ESTELLA (PERRY) HAYES, b. in Kittery on 26 Aug 1867 [Kittery VR, pg 419]. The daughter of Angelia's brother.
