CHARLES GARDNER LIBBY was born on 1 Apr 1836 in Limerick, ME, the son of William and Martha Libby [Libby Family in America, pg 399]. He died on 18 Mar 1903 in Shapleigh, ME at age 66 yrs,11 mos,18 das. He is buried in Highland Grove Cemetery, Shapleigh.

On 9 Sept 1858, he married JANE H WARREN, the daughter of Jonathan and Sophia (Heald) Warren. She was born in Limerick, ME in Jan 1835 [1900 census], and died on 5 Apr 1902 in Shapleigh at age 67 yrs,3 mos,6 das of pneumonia [ME vr]. For additional family information on her ancestors, see "Genealogy of the Descendants of James Warren", compiled by Orin Warren c1902 (pg 107). She is buried in Highland Grove Cemetery.

The following is from The Libby Family in America 1602-1881, pg 399: "He (Charles G) lived at home until after his mother's death and still lives in Limerick". He was still in town for the 1890 census/veteran schedule, but was afterwards in Shapleigh by 1900. He worked as a farm laborer in Limerick.

The 1900 census data gives Jane three children, all still living at the time. The Libby book only lists the latter two, which were children of Charles:

i. MARIETTA WARREN (LIBBY), born 14 Aug 1855 in Limerick, Maine to Jane (father's name not known). Living with Jane's parents in 1860 Limerick census, age 3; with Charles and Jane (listed as a Libby) during the 1870 Limerick census at age 13. She married JASON DALRYMPLE.

ii. HATTIE STEARNS LIBBY, b. 12 Aug 1860 and died on 23 Oct 1926 [YCCI, pg 847] and was buried in Hope Cemetery, Kennebunk Village. She married on 10 Sept 1880 to LEWIS A WELCH [Libby Family, pg 399], . Her husband, the son of Moses and Hannah (Smith) Welch, was born 14 Jan 1852 in Waterboro or Limington, ME and died 17 Nov 1904 in Shapleigh of pulmonary tuberculosis, is also buried here in plot along with five of their children. They had thirteen offspring [nine alive in 1900, eight in 1910, according to census recs]:
   1. Jessie Maude Welch, b. in Limerick [Marr rec] in 1881, died in 1960 [YCCI, p831], buried in Hoep Cemetery. She married Chauncey Daniel Phillips, the son of George and Rosanna (Proctor) Phillips. He was born 1882 [grave] in Kennebunk [Marr rec], and died in 1955 [YCCI, p831]
   2. Levy Orlando Welch, b. 28 Sept 1882 [WWI Draft Card]. He married on 4 Mar 1904 in Shapleigh, ME to Annie Thyng, the daughter of Cyrus K and Mary S Thyng [ME marr rec].
   3. Freeman G Welch, b. 13 May 1884 [ME death rec; 1900 census shows 1883]; he died 3 Sept 1918 from Brights Dis. and was buried in Hope Cemetery [ME VR]. He was married to Ida L Noble, the daughter of Marshall R and Elizabeth (Green) Noble, on 6 Jan 1908 in Kennebunk [ME VR].
   4. Ralph E Welch, b. 14 Feb 1886 and d. 26 Sept 1886 [YCCI, p847]
   5. Ebba J Welch, b. 20 July 1887 Limerick and d. there 27 Feb 1907 [ME death rec; YCCI, pg 847]. Called "Emma J" on 1900 census.
   6. (baby), b. 16 Apr 1890 and d. 26 May 1890 [YCCI, p847]
   7. Vella M Welch, b. and d. 10 Feb 1892
   8. Guy Welch, b. 16 Apr 1893 in Waterboro, ME [WWI Draft Card]. He was living in Kennebunk in 1917
   9. Maynard S Welch, b. 29 June 1894 [WWI Draft Card]. He was living in Limerick with wife and 2 children in 1917, an operator for Western ME Power Co.
   10. Paul Raymond Welch, a twin to Pearl, b. 11 July 1896 in Waterboro [ME vr; WWI Draft Card]. He was a millhand at Rogers Fiber Co. in Kennebunk in 1917-18, and had previously served in the military (ME NG)
   11. Pearl E Welch, b. 11 July 1896, twin to Paul above [ME vr]. She d. on 15 June 1907 in Limerick [ME VR] from pulmonary tuberculosis.
   12. Maeora (Mayora) B Welch, b. 27 Oct 1898 [ME vr]. She was married to Rodney M Moulton, the son of James M and Julia G Moulton, on 1 Jan 1920 in Kennebunk [ME VR].
   13. Fred Leslie Welch, b. 14 Sept 1900 in Shapleigh, Maine [ME VR].

iii. MARTHA ANGEEL LIBBY, born 23 Mar 1863 [Libby Family, pg 399], seen in both the 1870+1880 Limerick censuses with Charles and Jane, her whereabouts after that is not yet researched.
