GEORGE PITTS, the son of Benjamin Jr and Myra (Thorne) Pitts, was born in Waterboro, Maine [Descriptive Roll] ca 1845. He died on 7 Mar 1895 at the State Almshouse in Tewksbury, MA at age 50 from nephritis [MA VR v455 p394], and was buried in Pine Grove Cemetery in Waterboro.
His wife was RACHEL (RACHAEL) A KENNEY, the daughter of Thomas and Mary J (or Rachel) Kenney. They were married in Lowell, MA on 28 July 1886, herself being previously married. She was born in Tracadie, Nova Scotia [MA death rec] abt Nov 1860 [1900 census], and died in Boston City Hospital on 7 May 1907, aged 43. She was buried in Lowell's Edison Cemetery [MA vr].
Following his service in the 27th Maine, George reenlisted into the 1st Massachusetts Heavy Artillery. He served as a private from 22 Sep 1864 to 4 Jun 1865, and received a bounty of $168.66 for his enrollment [Rec of Mass Vol's 1861-65 v1 p476; MA Soldiers, Sailors and Marines in Civil War p564].
The whereabouts of George between the 1860 Waterboro census and his death in Tewksbury is still being researched. While his 1886 marriage record says he was a resident there, he is not seen in street directories at that time.
