JOHN W WIGGIN was born in Sebago, Maine [Descriptive Roll] on 20 Nov 1833 [grave], the son of Charles and Keziah Wiggin. He died in Buxton on 23 Mar 1881 [Buxton VR bk 3, pg 363; grave; probate], and was buried in Hillcrest (formerly called West Buxton) Cemetery in Hollis, Maine.
He was married, date unknown but prior to the 1860 census, to LYDIA ANN HILL. The daughter of Ivory and Isabella (Sawyer) Hill, she was born in Buxton, Maine on 26 Feb 1836 [Buxton VR bk 3, pg 112]. She died on 9 Feb 1925 [grave], place not yet known, and is buried with John in Hillcrest Cemetery. Following the death of her husband, she first remarried in 1883 to Rev Francis W Towne (he died in 1899), and secondly to Rev James Boyd in Topsham, VT in 1900. She was in Burrillville, RI by the 1910 census, a widow, living with her sister Martha Noyes. She did not have any children.
His mother Keziah (Kezia on grave) died in 1839, and his father passed away five years later, in 1844. They are both buried in the Fitch Cemetery in Sebago. John was only 10 years old, with both parents now deceased. It is not currently known when John Wiggin left his home town of Sebago, or where he was during the 1850 census, but he is seen as a farmer in the 1860 Buxton census, an occupation he continued with through 1880.
In his will, dated only 8 days prior to his death [York Probate, #20357], he left $25. to brothers Charles and Frank Wiggin, sister Sarah A Boynton, and to Clarence H Noyes, nephew of his wife. He would also leave $100. to the orphan fund at Buxton's Saco Valley Lodge #43, Independent Order of Odd Fellows. The remainder of his estate went to wife Lydia A. Further research shows that Sarah A Wiggin, the dau of Charles and Kesiah, married Charles W Boynton in Haverhill, MA in 1855. She had been born in Sebago, Maine. Brother Frank was born in Sebago on 11 Apr 1835, per his Mason membership card. These two may be the same ones seen in the Dan'l Wingate hh in Farmington, NH in 1850 census.
