CHARLES HENRY WOOD was born in Newfield, Maine on 7 June 1842 [Early Families of Newfield, ME, pg 747], the son of Daniel and Eliza Jane (Foster) Wood. He died on 14 Nov 1862 at Camp Seward (Arlington Heights), Virginia from typhoid fever. He was buried back in Newfield, at the Mt Pleasant (now Pleasant Hill) Cemetery.

Charles moved with his family to Parsonsfield, Maine while young, and was living there when he enlisted into the service, working as a farmer. He was single.

Ayers, Ruth Bridges, Early Families of Newfield, Maine (c1995 Penobscot Press) has ancestry of Charles (Daniel, Stephen, Stephen), the earlier generation having come from Berwick, Maine. Charles and his father were born in the part of Shapleigh, Maine that was annexed to Newfield in 1846.
