Charles A Harvey

​CHARLES A. HARVEY was born on 28 Feb 1841 to Stephen and Mary (Andrews) Harvey. He died from tuberculosis, on 2 Jul 1904, in Rollinsford [NH Death Rec], and was buried in Old Town Cemetery, Rollinsford, NH.

His wife was HANNAH G. MOULTON, married 18 Nov 1865 in Dover, NH. She was the daughter of James R. and Hannah G. (Whitehouse) Moulton, born 16 Feb 1842 in Dover, NH. She died 10 Jul 1920 in Rollinsford, NH, aged 78 yrs [NH Death Rec], and was buried in Old Town Cemetery.
​Charles moved over the river to Rollinsford, NH, where he worked first as a butcher, and was later a retail grocer (in 1872-74). Changing trades, he became a carpenter and builder. The 1888 Town Report for Rollinsford mentions "C.A. Harvey"  among a list of workers on the Quamphegan Bridge (over to South Berwick), he being paid $45. for 18 days labor. He served as deputy sheriff in Strafford County, 1892. His brother, John W. Harvey, also served in the 27th Maine.

Below is an advertisement from the 1902 Dover and Strafford County Directory, pg 795, when brothers Charles and Herbert Harvey ran a florist shop in Rollinsford, while their father advertised his carpentry business.

Charles and Hannah had five children:

i. GEORGIA A. HARVEY, b. 20 Sep 1870, Rollinsford, NH, d. 29 Nov 1945, Dover, NH [NH Death Rec]. Married 1st, 14 Sep 1893 in Rollinsford, FRANK A. SMALL; 2nd, 22 Sep 1915, Rollinsford, FRANCIS E. INGALLS.

ii. HATTIE HARVEY - an infant child, her name (no dates) inscribed on her parents gravestone. Birth/death dates not yet found.

iii. MAY HARVEY  - an infant child, her name inscribed on her parents gravestone with no dates. Birth/death dates not yet found.

iv. CHARLES NATHANIEL HARVEY, b. Salmon Falls, NH, Jul 1878, d. aft 1940. Married 15 Dec 1908, in South Berwick [ME VR], to MARY F BUTLER, daughter of William Neal [of the 27th ME, his bio: here] and Lydia (Butler) Butler. She was born 14 Feb 1876 in Berwick [Desc. of Thomas Butler, pg 42]. Charles was a carpenter at the Salmon Falls Mfg. Co. They lived in South Berwick. Both were alive in 1940 (census).

v. HERBERT HAYES HARVEY, b. 7 Apr 1883, Rollinsford [NH Birth Rec, 5th ch], d. 8 Jan 1956, Dover [NH Death Rec]. Married, 7 Apr 1904 in York, ME [ME vr; div by 1930],  LILLIAN B. PAGE (his first cousin). Born 26 Nov 1872, Gonic, NH, dau. of Samuel F. and Hannah F. (Harvey) Page. Died 12 Aug 1953, Center Strafford, NH [NH Death Rec].

By 1900, they had moved over to Franklin St. Below is from an 1871 map, the home marked as "Mrs. L.G. Twombley". Charles and Hannah were living with her in the 1870 census.
