BARNABUS PALMER HILL was the son of Prentiss/Prentice Hill and Martha Ann Cleaves, born in Kennebunk, Maine on 13 Jul 1845 [ME Death Rec]. He died in Saco, Maine on 22 Mar 1916 at age 70 yrs, 8 mos, 9 das and was buried in Pine Grove Cemetery, West Kennebunk [YCCI p794]

He was married first to CHARLOTTE STEVENS (Lottie), the daughter of Orlow Stevens and his first wife Miranda Taylor, on 30 Nov 1869 in Kennebunk [Kenn VR]. She was born in 1845 in Kennebunk [grave], and died on 5 Dec 1899 of diabetes at age 52 yrs, 2 mos, 26 das [ME Death Rec]. Note: age at death prob wrong; using in birth date calc. gives an 1847 birth year, a year after her mother died.

B. Palmer secondly married, on 25 Dec 1902 in Kennebunk [ME Marr Rec], to HARRIET T RUSSELL, the daughter of Cyrus and Eliza (Seavey) Russell, and former wife of James Burnham. She was born 5 July 1860 in Alfred, Maine, and died 17 Sept 1937 in Kennebunk [ME Death Rec]. She is buried with 2nd husband in Pine Grove Cem [YCCI p794]. In the 1900 census, she and James lived next door to Barnabus in Kennebunk.

Following his 9-month service in the 27th Maine, he reenlisted into the 9th Maine Infantry as a corporal on 20 Sept 1864, Co K. He was mustered out on 30 June 1865. His brother Samuel L Hill also served in the 27th ME.

For most of his life, he lived in either Kennebunk or Kennebunkport. Right after his marriage, he worked for a time at a sawmill in Raymond, NH with many other Mainers [1870 census]. He was back in Kennebunk by 1890, listed in 1900 census as a farmer. Here he lived until he moved to Saco three years prior to his death. His widow returned to Kennebunk after he died. He filed for a pension on 21 Aug 1888 (app #669,046 cert #480,485); widow Harriet filed 27 Sep 1916 (app #1,079,270 cert #825,453).

Barnabus and Charlotte had at least two children, living with him in 1900 census. I am unable to find them in 1880 census, so unclear if there were more children (Kennebunk vr does not show any, and there are no others buried with them). He and Harriet did not have any.

I. ORLOW PRENTIS HILL was born 24 Apr 1886 in Kennebunk [WWII Draft Reg Card,1942]. He died Mar 1970, probably in Rochester, NH [SSDI; #001-10-2708]. He lived in the Gonic area of Rochester until 1946, when he bought a house on No Main St [see Strafford Cty Deed v881 p415 for sale of this property]. He was named after his maternal and paternal grandfathers. He worked for the Maybury Shoe Co in Gonic. He never married.

II. RUTH BLAISDELL HILL, born 7 Dec 1887 in Kennebunk [Kenn VR]. She was named after the wife of Amos Stevens, her mother Charlotte's grandmother. Further data still being researched.
