SAMUEL L HILL was born circa Feb 1838 [1900 census] in Lyman, Maine [Descriptive Rolls], the son of Prentiss/Prentice and Martha Ann (Cleaves) Hill. He died on 7 Jan 1926 in Westbrook, Cumberland, ME [NARA pension card]. He is buried in the Methodist Cemetery in Cumberland, ME.
He married [intents published 14 Jan 1862, cert issued on 18th - VR of Kport] to VICTORIA E HUSTON of Falmouth, Maine. She was born ca Aug 1842 [1900 census] in Falmouth, and died on 9 Sept 1906 in Falmouth. She was the daughter of Maurice and Jane (Frank) Huston. She was buried in the Methodist Cemetery, Cumberland, Maine.
Samuel was listed as a truckman in the 1860 census, living with parents and family (including brother Barnabus P Hill, who also joined the 27th Maine). After this, he became a farmer, removing to Falmouth, Maine, where his wife was from. A 1912 street directory shows him living in North Falmouth. He filed for a pension on 11 Aug 1890 (app #871,452 cert #663,841).
Samuel and Victoria did not have any children [1900 census data].
