ATWOOD FRANK SMITH was born on 31 July 1837 in Hollis, Maine, the son of Hiram B and Betsey T (Ford) Smith [obit; ME death rec]. He died on 7 June 1907 in Biddeford, and was buried in Greenwood Cemetery [ME death rec; YCCI, pg 307].

He married in Biddeford, Maine on 23 Dec 1857 [Bidd VR] to JERUSHA MARILLA BARKER, the daughter of Timothy and Jerusha L Barker, with whom she and her husband lived in 1860. She was born in Bridgton, Cumb, ME on 13 June 1841 [Bridgton VR on IGI says 1844] and died on 17 Nov 1899 [gravestone data]. She is buried with her husband in Greenwood Cemetery. 

Born in Hollis, he had moved with parents to Biddeford prior to the 1850 census. He was "of Biddeford" when he purchased house and land from parents in 1866 [York Co Deed 303-370], and was living in Chicopee, Hampden, MA in 1868 [York Co Deed 312-312, dated 5 Dec] when he bought land adjoining his own in Biddeford from brother Sylvanus. Still in Chicopee during the 1870 census, he returned to Biddeford by 1880. He was a carpenter, and had been working for the Pepperell carpenter shop in Biddeford at the time of his death.

Atwood and his brother Charles B had both enlisted into the 27th Maine. Following their mustering out, Charles subsequently reenlisted into the First DC Cavalry, and died on 30 Jul 1864. Another brother, Josiah H, had served in the 10th and 29th Maine.

Atwood and his wife had the following children:

I. EDGAR H SMITH was born ca Apr 1858, and died on 5 Mar 1864 at age 5 yrs, 11 mos [grave data]. He is buried with his parents in Greenwood Cemetery.

II. THOMAS WARREN A SMITH was born ca Sep 1867 in ME [1900 census]. He had first married, on 14 Aug 1889 in Saco, Maine, to ALICE A STEPHENSON, the dau of Jesse and Sabrina Stephenson of Alexander, Washington, ME [1880 census]. She died on 9 Jan 1891 at age 22 yrs,7 mos, and is buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco, Maine [YCCI, pg 1443]. He married 2nd, on 25 Dec 1894 in Biddeford [ME Marr Rec] to EVA M BRACKETT, the dau of ( ) Brackett and Lizzie Merrill [father not listed on marr rec, but Peter Brackett f-in-law to Thomas in 1920 census]. Thomas was a weaver at a mill in 1900, and was a merchant in 1910 [Biddeford censuses]. He had no occupation in 1920 census. Children, the first with Alice and others by Eva:
   1. Laurance M Smith, b. 5 Jun 1890; d. 4 Dec 1890 at age 5 mos, 29 das. He was buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Saco, Maine [listed in two plots: one in plot w/ half-bro Thomas Jr, YCCI pg 1465 and also with his mother Alice, YCCI pg 1443]
   2. Thomas W A Smith Jr, b. in 1904; d. in 1959 [YCCI, pg 1465]. He is buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco.
   3. Elizabeth M Smith, age 7 in 1920 Biddeford census, liv w/ parents. Not researched after this.
