AUGUSTUS BENNETT was born about Jan 1842 [1900 census], the son of Orrin and Sarah Ann (Goodwin) Bennett. He died in South Berwick, Maine on 3 Sep 1904 at age 62 yrs, 7 mos, 9 das [VR South Berwick, p32]. He is buried in Union Cemetery, Amesbury.

He married before 1866 to VIOLA NASON, the daughter of Joshua and Elizabeth (Hearl/Earl) Nason. She was born in South Berwick circa Nov 1843, and died in Amesbury, MA on 6 Jan 1889 from cancer, aged 45 yrs, 2 mos [MA VR v 400 p 229]. She is buried in Union Cemetery, Amesbury, MA. Her brothers Elwell and Luther Nason served with her husband in the 27th Maine.

Augustus worked as a farm laborer, and lived most of his life in South Berwick. By 1877, he and his family had moved to Amesbury, MA, but he ended up returning to South Berwick following his wife's death in 1889 and stayed with his brother Charles [1900 census].

I. HERBERT BENNETT, born abt 1866 [age 4 in 1870 South Berwick census]. His death date is currently unknown, but took place after the 1880 census, where he is seen at age 14, working as hired hand at farm of John and Ann Tucker. He is buried in Union Cemetery in Bennett plot (online database shows no dates).

II. CARRIE I BENNETT, born ca 1868 in South Berwick. She married 15 Jun 1889 in Newburyport [MA VR v397 p204] to BURL L COLLEY, the son of Albert F and Mary F Colley. He was born in Portland, Maine.

III. EVA E BENNETT, born ca 1871 [age 9 in 1880] in South Berwick

IV. EDGAR A BENNETT was born 22 Feb 1877 in Amesbury [MA VR v286 p171]. He first married in Amesbury on 17 July 1901 [MA VR v512 p331] to AGNES MCCALL, the daughter of Stephen and Mary Jennie (Tuckwell) McCall. She died on 3 Feb 1904 in Merrimac, and was buried there in Locust Grove Cemetery. He secondly married AMELIA S COOMBS on 24 Nov 1910 in Newburyport, MA [MA VR v594 p404]. She was born in Newburyport, the dau of John P and Lucinda S Coombs.

V. HARRY EVERETT BENNETT was born 3 Sep 1880 in Amesbury [MA VR v313 p182] and died from intestinal problems on 23 Mar 1886 at age 5 [MA VR v373 p171]. He is buried in Union Cemetery, Amesbury.

VI. CHARLOTTE VIOLA BENNETT was born 30 May 1883 in Amesbury [MA VR v340 p197]. She married in Newburyport, MA on 18 Dec 1903 [MA VR v536 p368] to ERNEST AVERILL, the son of James C and Cynthia (Eldridge) Averill..
